New EU Law means changes to pet food labeling.
A new law implemented by the EU could cost the pet industry over 10 Million pounds by 2010.
New regulation on the marketing and use of feed by the EU will come into force late 2009, this mean that manufacturers of will have 12 months to change all labels on their products.
What changes will need to be made?
Changes will be required to wording on the products including information and how the products are presented. This legislation has been bought into effect in order to standardise the labelling of pet foods across the EU.
Michael Bellingham, Chief Executive of the Pet food Manufacturers Association said “these new rules will have an impact on how cat and dog, plus from now on other small animal food is manufactured and marketed”.
Michael also warned that 12 months is not enough time to implement these changes with concerns over having to change outdated labels for new ones in such a short space of time.
The new regulation will insist on a product name and statutory declaration plus new headings will be required which include composition, additives and analytical constituents.
