So sorry for all of the people that follow our blog, we have left it far too long to update with new blog entries but we have been run off our feet with work and the general expansion of the company.

This month (May) we have launched our new dog beds website called ‘Dog Beds deluxe’.

Dog Beds Deluxe is a new department of the company that specialises in bedding for both dogs and cats. With so many dog beds out there we decided to create a standalone website that specialises in the sale pet bedding, it also gives us an opportunity to display our entire range in a much more professional fashion with improved categorisation.

The cats are not left out by the way, in fact so far we have sold just as many of these as we have dog furniture!!!

Categories.

The website features a range of leather beds including our ever popular Wallace and Jones range. We have categorised by shape so you can browse the beds in their round, rectangle and mattress form.

For the cats we have introduced a range of Duffle bag beds from Cleo pet that are always popular. You can also purchase the full range of KatKabins from the website plus there is a fantastic new range of beds from Bobby of France.

When I say changes I don’t mean text and images, I mean some technical stuff like the layout and some new features like online polls and a social page. We needed a programmer so that definitely ruled any of us out!!

Anyway, I did some searching for a local company and to be honest, a lot of them were charging far too much for what we required, so in the end I placed an add on Gumtree for some help.

A bespoke software company got in touch with us and said they specialise in Drupal development and they were quite happy to make the changes we requested at a price that was right. I was happy to give them a go as it was a case of paying “once you were happy” with the work completed.

The new updated website goes live at the end of may and I have to say that I am more then happy with the changes that have been made. We have lots of new things such as online polls, links to our face book and twitter accounts plus a cool online competition where you can win some great toys for your pooch.

Also, be sure to check out the website in a couple of weeks as the new summer range is going on show. As always your feedback is appreciated and we look forward to your comments and suggestions.

Once the move is completed you should see the website back to its old fast and friendly self. Last year we invested heavily in improving the website including an improved shopping cart and the ability to create user accounts for returning customers, the improvements have been well received and we feel that everyone is benefiting from the change over to the new Ubercart platform.

We have more room for our new members of staff, plus we have the option to expand and open a new store in the area should we chose to do so. Moving all of the new stock over was the hardest part, but at least we now have the room required to take the company further.

All of the new fittings are in place and we now have all of our office furniture setup in the building including my new funky directors desk and chair (oh how the power has got to me). A big shout goes to the best IT Support company in London We managed to get all of the IT network setup thanks to our IT Department who helped us setup the hardware and a new Hosted desktop platform. So that’s it really, let’s hope its onwards and upwards in 2010!!

So what did we sell? here is a breakdown of our top 5 products for December…

5. The Hampton dog bed.

I am personally not surprised that two variations of the Chester and Wells range made it into our top 5. The Hampton dog bed has been selling particularly well since its launch and this Christmas we completely sold out of the smaller sizes in both colours. It seems that the small dog owners have taken a shine to our Hampton dog beds!!

4. Ducky World catnip cigars.

Wow, everyone went catnip mental this Christmas!! We simply couldn’t get the stock in quick enough. A catnip goes, the Ducky world is expensive, but it lasts for ages and it truly is the strongest stuff money can buy.

3. Doggy Things 2 stripe dog collar.

These leather dog collars are excellent value for money and they look very smart indeed. The pink colour was the most popular choice for our customers this Christmas.

2. k9 paw print dog hoodie.

Very popular indeed, especially during these colder times. Theses hoodies are fantastic quality and we have found that a lot owners with older dogs like them because of their warmth.

1. The Richmond dog bed.

We added these beds to our website in November and since then the response to these range of  dog beds has been overwhelming. This beds look STUNNING and the build quality is s good as I have seen. by far the most popular selling item of Christmas 2009. Winchester warmer dog jacket.

A traditional English designer dog jacket that has timeless quality. Perfect for days out in the countryside, the Winchester Warmer has been lined with a soft snugly material to make it extra warm, the chest strap is wide to help keep the warm in your dogs body and it is fully adjustable using press stud fastening.

I have to say that the name certainly dosnt do the range justice, as these are some of the smartest cat beds we have ever sold. The range was introduced to the website due to a number of ustomers asking us to increase the range of cat beds we have on the website and until recently, good quality designer cat beds have been very hard to find.

“The Tramps range has been extremily popular so far” said Micheal Moles, head of marketing. “The customers asked us for good quality cat beds, so that is exactly what we gave them”.

There are 9 different cat beds in the Tramps range starting with the corner cat bed and finishing with the stunning “Glamour Puss” bed for the owner that loves a bling bed for their cat.

1. The Lassie cabin dog bed. before October these beds were not the most popular on the website, but all of a sudden people have gained interest and started purchasing the official Lassie products. The quality of the bed reflects the price tag and you get what you pay for, a quality bed that will last for years. The best seller for October.

2. The Flexi Lead “dog lover” dog lead. Great value for money at £12.99. These limited edition dog leads are Genuine Flexi products. Flexi is a German manufacturer with a reputation for making the toughest dog leads in the world and yet again they haven’t disappointed with this product. A bargain.

3.The willow rectangular dog basket. A product which consistently appears in our best selling list every month. These beds look stunning and offer great value for money. Another appearance in the top 5 for scruffs.

4. Puppy Angel Stripy Heart Body Harness and Leash Set. Taken over from the Dear Dog range as the best selling harness on the website. The brown harness in particular is a best seller this month (must be a popular colour for autumn).

5. Pet Head Dirty Talk Deodorising Shampoo. Must be that time of year again!! Autumn is upon us and shampoo sales have increased tenfold. Pet head has been soooo popular this year, a fantastic product. There you have it, the best selling products in October. November is a busy time of year for us so it will be interesting to see what ends up as the best selling product for November.
